Adjunct Projects

Apart from the Trust’s own projects, Tshulu also provides some support for a number of initiatives started by Hamakuya community members.

Music: CD Recording by Obed Ramashiya

Obed Ramashiya is a Venda singer-songwriter whose style is strongly influence by the traditional genre of malende. Born and brought up in the village of Tshianswane near Tshulu Camp, Obed started playing guitar in 1987 at the age of 17. He made his own 5-string guitar from a paraffin tin and was taught how to play by his older brother Robert Ramashiya. Obed’s songs come to him in dreams and address social, economic and political issues that affect people in rural Venda. Obed made his first CD, titled Mafhalatombo, in a studio belonging to well known musician Ishy (Ishmail Malala) in 2007. He is about to release his second CD.
