• Is Hamakuya a malarial area?
Yes, please consult your medical practitioner.
 
• Do I need a 4x4?
If you would like to drive yourself all the way to Tshulu Wilderness Camp, a 4x4 or high clearance 2x4 would be advisable. A minibus is also fine.
However, it is possible to arrange safe parking for your car at the end of the tar road, and for a transit from your car to the camp.
 
• What is the cell phone coverage like?
There is coverage in the centre of Hamakuya, but becomes patchy in outlying villages. At the camp there is an antennae to which you may attach your cell phone. This means you can call out whenever you wish, but that incoming calls can only be received when your cell is attached to the mast.
