Birding
The Pafuri area is renowned for its birding. There are over 200 species in the area, including a number of specials: see our Bird List. 'Specials' include the Orange-winged Pytilia, Ground Hornbill and Grey-headed Parrot. Tshulu Camp is a Birder Friendly establishment, and a member of BirdLife South Africa and the Greater Limpopo Birding Route. We have a qualified bird guide who is available to show birders all the best viewing places in the vicinity. We are also close to Golwe Picnic and Camp Site and can facilitate visits to this well known birding hotspot.
In March 2011 BirdLife South Africa and the Ben de Boer Trust hosted a Limpopo Bird Guides training course at Tshulu Camp. Some exciting discoveries emerged during the bird ringing project, including ‘lifers’ such as the European Nightjar and the Olive-tree Warbler.
